How the worksheet is built
Every fuel receipt and mileage entry is tied to a state. Once you mark a quarter prepared, HaulFile multiplies your taxable gallons by each state's current diesel rate, subtracts the gallons you bought there, and tells you net owed or net credit per state. Surcharge states are pulled out so you can see them on their own line, the way the IFTA form does.
Why the rates stay honest
Tax rates change every quarter. HaulFile loads each new quarter's rates as PROVISIONAL until an operator (us) cross-checks them against iftach.org and certifies them. Quarters won't let you mark them filed until every state's rate is certified. The math you file is the math that's actually on the books. This is the publication-boundary lock, and we don't bend it for anyone.
What happens at filing time
Press mark-filed, and HaulFile snapshots every rate, every state line, and every total right into the quarter's record. The snapshot is the source of truth from that point on; we never silently re-compute. If you ever get audited, the snapshot is what you show.
